Bridge Gender & Election Training for ECOWAS Member States – Nigeria

director olphiThe Executive Coordinator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Initiative displaying her BRIDGE certificate of participation the end of a 3 day Bridge Gender and Election Training for ECOWAS Member State – Nigeria tagged “Enhancing Women’s Appointive and Elective Participation in Governance and Democratic Processes January 4th – 6th 2015.
BRIDGE is an acronym which stands for Building Resources In Democracy, Governance and Election. We were shared to groups according to our different geo-political zones as syndicate groups and there was also a general session.

The training comprises of 52 modules and was supposed to take at 12 weeks to run but was compressed into 3 day training. It was tasking, hectic and tedious but fulfilling.


Free Medical Services at Azuabie, Rivers State

free medical azuabieA 2-day free medical services on malaria screening, free malaria drugs/long-lasting mosquito nets, HIV screening and free counseling in collaboration with Laurel Clinic & Society for Family Health at Azuabie Okujagu Community, Port Harcourt, Rivers State was carried out.

This program was planned after a need assessment carried out in the community showed that they were neglected when outreaches were planned. The following programs were done in the 2 day planned campaign - Malaria sensitisation – Causes, Prevention and Treatment for Malaria, Free Random Diagnostic Test for Malaria, Long lasting mosquito net enlightenment;  HIV/AIDS sensitisation – means of contracting, prevention, management of HIV and AIDS patients and free screening for those that were interested and free counselling for those that tested positive and further referals for such people; Ebola Strain sensitization – incessant hand wash and eating properly cooked food; Cervical Cancer lecture – causes, prevention and treatment – keeping to one sexual partner as in the case of HIV/AIDS, Condom usage enlightenment etc.

Capacity Training on HCT/Prevention of Mother-to-child Transmission of HIV/AIDS

duruguru-heath-educOLPHI participated in a one-day Capacity Training on HCT/Prevention of Mother-to-child Transmission of HIV/AIDS. During the session, major issues discussed was on how best to manage and counsel HIV/AIDS pregnant women to make sure that their unborn children are safe from the syndrome.

Character Building and Transformation for Undergraduates

Character Building and Transformation 3We at OLPHI felt an urgent need to do something to salvage the Youths of our dear nation who are wasting and have gone astray through negative influences of hard drugs, cultism and political thuggery. After the need assessment on the way forward, our organisation designed a program for the undergraduate which has been subsequently modified to take care of out-of-school youths in the street and graduates. Youth mentoring is an integral part of our organisation, so we set out to have a session Nigeria Institute of Public Relations Student Association and of Rivers State College of Arts & Science and University of Port Harcourt in association with Nigeria Institute of Public Relations Rivers Chapter.

Topical Issues discussed was majorly on character transformation which we introduced through the use of Maslow Hierarchy of Needs and progressed into everyday living and activities in our families,


Ebola & Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign

obioha outreach2OLPHI took the campaign and awareness creation on Ebola and Cervical Cancer seriously especially at the heat of Ebola Strain Disease in Nigeria – August 2014. A program was designed for Sensitization and Awareness creation on Ebola and Cervical Cancer.

The session was held in association with Catholic Women Organisation of our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (Home and Abroad) Avu in Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State – St. Mulumba’s Catholic Church, Ihechiowa Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State – August 2014.
A critical look and discussion was taken at the causes, prevention and treatment of Ebola & Cervical Cancer.
